The Town Attorney is appointed by the Town Council to serve as its legal advisor and to be the legal counsel to the Town Manager, the Town departments and their staff, and most appointed boards.
The Town Attorney prepares or approves all proposed ordinances, resolutions, and contracts to be considered by the Town Council. The Town Attorney also renders legal opinions to the Town Council, the Town Manager, and the Town staff and appointive boards on municipal government matters, including the interpretation of the Town Charter, statutes, ordinances, and other regulatory materials and cases.
In addition, the Town Attorney represents the Town or supervises outside counsel in all litigation matters.
